Riding as a community: the women changing cycling in Querétaro

By the Giant Juriquilla team3 min read

Women’s cycling in Mexico has grown in a way that seemed hard to imagine just a few years ago, and Querétaro hasn’t been left behind. A clear example is Mujeres en Bici Querétaro, a collective born from a group of local women determined to break paradigms and show that the bike is a safe, free space for them too, inside and outside the city.

What began as a small group ended up connecting with the national Mujeres en Bici network, joining forces to promote the bicycle as both a means of transport and a community. Their focus goes beyond the ride itself: it’s about teaching those taking their first pedal strokes how to move through the city properly, and to keep feeling supported along the way.

This wave of female community in cycling has a lot to do with the spirit behind Liv, Giant’s line designed specifically for women riders. It’s not just about different colors or sizes, but bikes engineered from the ground up for female biomechanics, so that every ride, whether a quick spin around the city or a mountain outing, feels comfortable and natural.

Stories like those of these Querétaro collectives are a reminder that cycling is built in community. Every group ride, every meet-up to shake off the fear of taking to the streets on a bike, adds to a cycling culture that’s bigger, more diverse and, above all, more our own. If Querétaro has proven anything, it’s that when women riders organize, the whole city moves differently.
